Description

Procession starts 12.30pm at Walthamstow Town Hall Forest Road E17 4JA. The Assembly point for participators is Chestnut Field, Forest Road behind Walthamstow Town Hall.

Procession ends at Walthamstow Town Square, approximately 1.30pm.

The annual carnival presents a colourful procession of more than 1,000 costumed young people and community groups from across Waltham Forest. Dancing all the way from the Town Hall to Walthamstow Town Centre the procession always delights the crowds along the route. The celebration goes on with a packed programme of music and dance headlined by Mica Paris.

Live on stage from 2pm

Mica Paris

The range, power and sheer soulfulness of Mica singing made a major impact on the UK scene in 1988 when she released her debut, platinum selling album “So Good”. With her new album “Born Again” the UKs soul diva returns to the stage for a performance that cannot be missed.

Joining Mica on stage a fabulous mix of some of the best in black music, presenting:

Omar

Winner of both the ‘Best Neo-Soul Act’ and ‘Outstanding Achievement Award 2006’ at the Urban Music Awards 2006.

Peter Hunnigale

Winner of MOBO Awards Best Reggae Album 1996 and also the Black Music Awards within the same year.

Shola Ama

Winner of a Brit Award for ‘Best British female’ and two MOBO awards for ‘Best Newcomer’ and ‘Best female Vocals’.

YPCC procession route

The carnival procession for 2009 will take the following route:

Please note that all times will be approximate

12.30pm Leave Waltham Forest Town Hall and turn left into Forest Road

12.40pm Turn right into Wood Street

12.55pm Turn right into Vallentin Road

1.05pm Turn right into Shernhall Street

1.15pm Turn left into Prospect Hill

1.25pm Continue onto Church Hill

1.35pm Cross over Hoe Street into Walthamstow High Street

1.40pm End in Walthamstow Town Square

2pm Live music and entertainment. (See above for lineup)

From 2pm the audience will be entertained with performances with music and entertainment from Mica Paris and other local acts. There will be FREE bouncy castles, face painters, walk-about characters. food stalls, art exhibition and children’s entertainers.

7pm Close of event
