Description
Ex Gratia Recordings record launch and film showing at Portobello Film Festival 2008
Returning from the pits of Punkvert's Labiatory for a one off special soirée at this year's Portobello Film Festival, the original club de "twistado-punkass-kabbaret for discerning dissenters, terraists, crotch watchers and inbetweeny Manson Family wannabees"*- Subterfuge, makes a rare appearance.
With an annual changing theme for this most prestigious of independent cinematic events, a blessing has fallen in the form of 'carnival/bizarre'. Already feverously religious about the Great Cosmic Joker, Punkvert are now happier than a psychotic, special-forces agent in a coup d'état.
To celebrate the holy way of the Jester, Ex Gratia Recordings have a hat-trick release on the aforementioned evening of debauchery. A new single from both cabaret punk-funkers - Rude Mechanicals and flagship freaks – Anarchistwood. Ex Gratia turns this into a nasty little threesome with the long awaited debut album from performance soloist - Handsum Pete. All artists will performing live on the night, so expect disco gone wrong, bleeding strings, hard, heavy, sexual meanderings from blokes with maracas and Subterfuge special guests.
Whilst the above tantalises and makes one twitch somewhat nervously with anticipation, we must draw your attention to the first hour or so, of this auspicious affair. At 6.30pm, a premier cut of Punkvert's new creative AV documentary - #402, will be screened. Filmed in collaboration with artists from the Treatment Rooms and Nick Reynolds, the piece follows the events of said individuals as they travel to Huntsville, Texas for the State execution of Baroness von Reichardt's (Treatment Rooms) friend – John Joe 'Ash' Amador, in summer of 2007.
The last minute addition of Nick to the travel party transformed the outcome of this grizzly display of sanctioned homicide. By Nick's casting of a death mask of Ash, his family, friends and the audience can find some positive light in the darkness of capital punishment. As an extension of the #402 exhibition held at the Vibe Bar Gallery, London in May/June 08 and as the successor to Punkvert's 2006 'Tales from the Treatment Rooms – the Luis Ramirez Story', the film displays the triumphant strength of the human spirit in abominable situations.
VJing for the evening comes from the most (UN) paranoid Kodek (VJ) and Punkvert, whilst PRNWhore and the bastard son of dada and all things decedent, Mr. Johnny Southside spin the vinyl.
