A free festival held by This Is Not A Gateway (TINAG) at the Kobi Nazrul Centre and Hanbury Hall (both located on Hanbury Street, Spitalfields - just off Commericial Street and Brick Lane [E1 6QR] and a short walk from Liverpool Street and Aldgate East tube stations), from 23-25 October.

The festival brings together people, living and working in Europe, whose main preoccupation is the city. TINAG creates platforms for emerging academics, activists, human rights canvassers, artists, youth workers, filmmakers, architects, students and more, whose point of departure is the city.

As 2009 marks the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall, the festival is focusing on issues relating to the building and re-building of former Communist eastern bloc countries. The festival features over 60 events, including workshops, discussions, exhibitions, film screenings, walks and tours that investigate the relationship between politics, ideology, space and place from the perspective of urbanists based in Eastern European cities.

This is the second festival organised by TINAG, a not for profit organisation, that seeks to work on a grass roots level to gather knowledge from around the world relating to the way in which we inhabit cities.
