When:
02.12.2008 13.00 h
Where:
Shoreditch
Category:
Politics/Social Action

Description

Outside the UK Immigration Service Communications House

SUPPORT THIS DEMONSTRATION

• To show vile Immigration Minister Phil Woolas that not everyone shares his racist views.

• In solidarity with asylum seekers and immigrants

• To let the public know what Communications House is. The building looks anonymous but immigration reporting centres are places of fear for asylum seekers, who have to report to them monthly, weekly or even several time s a week. They are places of detention and qualify for inspection by the Chief Inspector of Prisons (see  http://inspectorates.homeoffice.gov.uk/hmiprisons/inspect_reports/STHF-reports/2007-Communications_House_f1.pdf)

Description

Immigration reporting centres are places of fear for asylum seekers,
who have to report to them monthly, weekly or even several times a
week. From reporting centres asylum seekers are often detained without
warning and sent to removal centres to await deportation.  Migrant
workers, like the SOAS cleaning staff detained on 12 June, are also
taken to detention via IRCs like Communications House.

Communications House is not just a reporting centre - caseworkers
based inside are issuing the directions to deport people. It is an
integral part of the immigration system.
