London Social Centres Round Up

London has a long tradition of self-organised spaces, squatted communities and other ways for folk to socialise, have fun, learn and organise.  Some are in squats, some in rented accommodation and a couple even owned outright.

For those new to London, skint or just interested in meeting folk interested in radical ideas and communities organising themselves then these are friendly and safe environments to meet like minded folk.

Below is a list of some of these free spaces.  Many hold regular free events, check our listings or their websites for more into.

London Action Resource Centre (LARC) - Whitechapel

A collectively run building providing space and resources for people and groups working on self-organised, non-hierarchical projects for radical social change.

195 Mare Street - Hackney

The former Lansdowne Club, recently occupied and currently in use as a community squat/social centre.

56a Infoshop - Walworth

A radical social centre and bookshop since 1991.

Freedom Bookshop - Aldgate

Long running radical bookshop and publishers of Freedom, the world's longest running anarchist newspaper.  Hold occasional events and share the building with the Advisory Service for Squatters and London Coalition Against Poverty.

3Colts - Bethnal Green

New social centre from the RampART Collective, currently holding meetings on Monday nights to discuss the use of the space.

Kew Bridge Eco Village - Kew

This eco-village occupation is inspired by campaigns like The Land is Ours which campaigns peacefully for access to the land, its resources, and the decision-making processes affecting them, for everyone, irrespective of race, gender or age.
