Finsbury Park could see a return of an annual anti-racist festival if organisers are able to raise enough money to ensure the event goes ahead. A provisional date of Sunday, July 11 has been set by the organisers of UpRise, but they ugently need to raise £100,000 by the end of March.
The hugely popular RISE Festival, which attracted thousands of people from across the capita,l was cancelled last year by Mayor Boris Johnson. The event had in the past played host to a host of big name acts including Fun Lovin' Criminals, Public Enemy, De La Soul and Run DMC, making it Europe's largest anti-racist festival.
After it's cancellation local residents Freya Van Lessen and Mike Barnard started a facebook group which currently boasts almost 4000 members. 2500 people also signed a petition calling for the event to be reinstated.
According to Finsbury Park People plans are well underway for the event which is set to include a main stage, a stage for local talent and a DJ bus.
